Tigers' Owner Gives US Autos a Hand

Detroit's Big Three

There was a very interesting article in the Free Press by columnist Mitch Albom last week. The jist of the article was that MLB Detoit Tigers' owner Mike Ilitch gave away the advertising rights to his centerfield fountain after GM told him it would be unable to pick up the tab this year. Rather than collect over $1.5 million from any number of bidders, Ilitch instead allowed GM, Ford and Chrysler to share the spot free of charge. Ilitch said he didn't want to offend anybody, especially the foreign car makers, but he wanted to show that "the Detroit Tigers support our automakers." It's nice to hear some good news once in a while, and I hope that more people follow the Tigers' lead.
