I am sad to report that motorsport enthusiast, professional driver, actor and philanthropist Paul Newman has lost his battle with lung cancer. On August 13th, the Lime Rock Park race track near his Connecticut home actually closed down for a couple hours so the 83-year old could take his final laps in his GT1 Corvette. For those only familiar with Newman's acting career or perhaps his line of salad dressing and popcorn, he was also quite an accomplished racer taking home a 2nd place finish at the 24 hours of Le Mans and a GTS class victory at the '95 Daytona 24 hours. He was also co-owner of one of the most successful IndyCar/ChampCar teams of its era, to say nothing of raising over $200 million for charity via Newman's Own brand of foods. He will truly be missed.
