With scorching temperatures hitting up to 94 and 95-degrees on Saturday and Sunday, new best ETs were hard to come by at the inaugural Kooks Custom Headers NMCA Nationals at Atco Raceway. But those who did brave the heat were rewarded with some great action with a diverse field of competitors. On the LSX front, the car count wasn't quite as high as expected, but we suspect with the rising gas prices–everyone is saving up for Memphis in October. Corvettes from the tri-state area made a strong showing, several 10-second C5s from Cartek, East Coast Supercharging, and the Vette Doctors put on a display of LS excellence. Grand Poobah Paul Major was testing his new twin turbo 454 Warhawk setup. I was on the starting line for his second hit on Saturday, and noticed the Vette was launching harder than ever. A violent and quick hit to the wheelie bars had him pedaling it out of the hole, which (in combination with the heat) kept him in the 8.20s.
