In case any of you have been living under a rock for the past 6-months, there are currently four naturally aspirated LS1s raking in sub 9-second time slips. The School of Automotive Machinists leads the pack with its solid roller C5R-motivated '99 Camaro SS that has gone a best of 8.75 at 153mph. I had a chance to meet with Judson Massingill of SAM and his crew of students at the LSX Shootout, and it was apparent then that the SS's combo had much more to give than its best of 9.04 at the shootout. Similarly the Six Speeds, Inc SOM Camaro also managed to top its own 6-speed record with an 8.90 at 153mph. I look forward to seeing Joe and Amber Huneycutt of Six Speeds as well as the SAM crew at this year's LSX Shootout, and hopefully some of the other single digit contenders will make it out.
