2008 Katech Track Attack

Having been to so many events over the years, it really catches me by surprise when an event really gets my rocks off. However, from the onset the 2008 Katech Track Attack promised to be the ultimate LS1-specific road racing event. Besides the obvious opportunity to congregate with fellow Gen III and IV brethren, the Track Attack presented the perfect opportunity to bump shoulders with one of the most successful drivers in ALMS history, Ron Fellows, as well as CTS-V/C6.R wheelman (and one of my favorite drivers) Andy Pilgrim, up-and-coming SCCA SPEED GT driver and local Brian Kubinski, and Bahraini rally and endurance racer Jaber Bin Ali Al-Khalifa. Throughout the day, the pros were available for autographs and even just to shoot the breeze. Ron was testing out Pratt & Miller's C6RS supercar and giving rides to prospective buyers and chucklehead media types. Meanwhile, Andy and Brian as well as the experienced instructors were more than happy to give tips and even hot lap your car around Autobahn Country Club's challenging 2.1 mile South Circuit.

The event was first class all the way; catered lunches, immaculate facilities, complimentary snacks and drinks, and even your very own pit crew. Katech's talented technicians were on hand to change brake pads, bleed brake lines, and fix any issues you may be having with your Gen III or IV. Miraculously, though, there were little to no such issues with the many well-engineered C5 and C6s that descended upon the Joliet, Illinois track. It truly was a pleasure to meet a great group of people from the 100 or so participants that were extremely friendly and good-natured to all of the sponsors. Big thanks to Katech, Pratt & Miller, Corsa, Pfadt, Halltech and Mike Newlander for the invite and hospitality. I hope next year I can bring an LS1 of my own, and I recommend anyone interested in road racing to do the same.
