It is with great excitement that I tell you GM High-Tech Performance will again be the presenting magazine of the GM Performance Parts LSX Shootout! This event will be held in conjunction with the NMCA World Finals on October 9-12, 2008 at Memphis Motorsports Park in Memphis, TN. And I’ve gotta tell you: it’s going to be massive!
You might remember that in the runup to the 2007 event, we had a good feeling about the turnout and the race, but weren’t sure how everything would come together and play out. We were pleased to find a nice venue, tons of people and a good car count, several very competitive classes, and the kinds of record-setting performances that have made the LS engines modern-day legends. And that’s saying nothing of GMPP’s big financial and personnel support, and the NMCA’s seasoned event staff that kept the entire event rolling smoothly. My best memories from last year include rubbing shoulders with Warren Johnson, seeing unbelievable ETs from a couple of wheels-up All Motor guys, watching 7-second Drag Radial runs, and wandering through Vendor’s Row scoping the newest parts. (Finally: a manufacturer’s midway for only late-model EFI GMs!)
Last’s year’s LSX Shootout wasn’t just pulled off: it was done with style. And with all of the overwhelmingly good feedback hitting GMHTP, GMPP, the NMCA, and the forums, last year’s fence-sitters will be this year’s participants. Yep, we are poised to really tear the roof off in ’08.
A few quick things:
GMHTP will be putting together the official LSX Shootout Fan Guide, chock full of everything you need to know about this year’s event!
Drag Radial, All Motor, True Street, and Index classes will be back––and a new Truck class has been added. Most of the rules will stay the same, and we’ll be posting the finalized rules when we get them.
We’ll be posting the purses for each event once they are finalized.
Finally, GMHTP will once again be on hand with a slew of editors, covering the LSX Shootout from every angle. We came away from last year’s event with tons of stories and many great feature vehicles. I’ll say it again: if you own a beautiful and fast LS-powered GM, this is the place to be seen by our staff for possible inclusion in the magazine and on our website.
Don’t let us down…make the trip to Memphis!
