As someone who enjoys driving his hot rods on the street just as much, if not more so, as the track…I’ve always been a proponent to streetcar features and project cars, though I recognize the significance and importance of covering racecars. To me there is nothing more thrilling than driving an LS1 F-body on the street and lighting up the tires at 80mph, and surprising a few Hayabusas as East Side Performance Tech Alfred Lassen recently reminded me. In my tenure at GMHTP, I’ve been privy to many a scary ride in 500+ horsepower late model GMs. Matter of fact, I swear its been the mission of almost every potential feature car or shop owner to try and scare the bejesus out of me. I’m certainly not complaining, mind you, there are plenty of days in the office when I could use that jolt of torque I felt in one of Strictly Performance’s 700+ rear wheel horsepower supercharged F-bodies, Granatelli’s twin turbo C5, any of Cotton’s hopped-up Buicks, or Denny Raab’s 10-second Syclone. Maybe I just need my own 9 or 10-second streetcar project.
